Expert consensus review highlights the important role of Micronized Purified Flavonoid Fraction (MPFF) in the management of Hemorrhoidal Disease patients at all grades.

This international expert consensus aimed to review the clinical evidence for the efficacy of Micronized Purified Flavonoid Fraction (MPFF) in the treatment of acute HD and as an adjunct following surgical and nonsurgical procedures and to discuss its position with respect to current HD guidelines.

A total of 17 publications were included in the review. Based on available clinical evidence, current national guidelines, and extensive clinical experience in treating HD patients, it’s a collective opinion that MPFF is appropriate and effective for all grades of HD. MPFF can be administered as a first-line treatment for acute grade I and II HD or as an adjunctive treatment to aid recovery from hemorrhoidectomy or nonsurgical procedures. In acute HD, MPFF can reduce HD symptoms such as bleeding, pain, anal discomfort, anal discharge, and pruritus. In patients undergoing surgery, postoperative adjunct MPFF consistently reduces pain, bleeding duration, and the use of analgesics. MPFF reduces the duration of hospital stay following surgery, facilitating a return to normal activity and improving quality of life. MPFF may also prevent HD recurrence.
